An investigation on the current situation of psychiatric day and vocational rehabilitation program in Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
Objects : We investigated the current state of psychiatric and vocational rehabilitation program in Oct. 1995 in Korea.
Methods : We sent a questionnaire to all program manager by mail.
Results : 1) There were 28 psychiatric day rehabilitation programs and 9 psychiatric vocational rehabilitation programs, mainly run by psychiatric hospitals. 2) Personnels mainly involved in day rehabilitation programs were social workers and volunteers and those of vocational rehabilitation programs were registered nurses. 3) Schizophrenic patients in their late twenties or early thirties were the main users of those programs. 4) Most commonly provided programs in day training was considered to be the most important therapeutic program. 5) Vocational rehabilitation program in Korea have much to be replenished. The problems replied were scanty provisions of the programs, insufficient governmental financial support and insurance coverage, lack of sheltered workship and job opportunity for the mentally ill.
Conclusions : Remedies to activate the psychosocial programs in Korea were the education program for the manager of the psychosocial programs, central and provincial governmental support, insurance fee modification facilitating rehabilitation therapy, and new model program development and distribution.
